1Choose your variant
The most important decision in roulette is which variant to play. The difference between European and American roulette is a single extra pocket - but it doubles the house edge.
American Roulette
5.26%
38 pockets (0, 00, 1-36). Double zero. Avoid if possible.
View American RouletteNever play American Roulette if European is available - the extra zero doubles the house edge.
2Understand the table layout
The roulette table has two main betting areas:
Inside bets
Bets placed on specific numbers or small groups of numbers. Higher payouts, lower probability of winning.
Outside bets
Bets placed on larger groups of numbers (colours, odd/even, dozens). Lower payouts, higher probability of winning.

Outside bets are ideal for beginners. They cover large portions of the wheel and offer near 50/50 odds (minus the zero). Note: outside bets lose on zero.
