European Roulette Review: Our Verdict

European Roulette is the definitive online roulette experience and the recommended choice for South African players. The single-zero wheel delivers a house edge of just 2.70%, compared to 5.26% for American Roulette. The clean NetEnt interface, comprehensive bet types and high maximum bet of R1,000 make it suitable for all players.

Pros

  • Single zero wheel with 2.70% house edge
  • Significantly better odds than American Roulette
  • Comprehensive inside and outside bet options
  • High maximum bet of R1,000
  • Clean and intuitive interface

Cons

  • No La Partage or En Prison rules (which would further reduce the house edge)
  • No live dealer interaction in the RNG version
  • Roulette is a pure chance game with no skill element

How to Play European Roulette

European Roulette uses a wheel with 37 numbered pockets (0-36). You place bets on where the ball will land. Here is how the game works:

1

Place Your Bets

Choose your chip value and place bets on the table layout. You can bet on individual numbers, groups of numbers, colours (red or black), odd or even, or high (19-36) or low (1-18) numbers.

2

Spin the Wheel

Click Spin to launch the ball around the wheel. The wheel has 37 pockets numbered 0-36. Zero is green. Numbers 1-36 alternate between red and black.

3

Collect Your Winnings

When the ball lands, all winning bets are paid out. A straight-up bet on a single number pays 35:1. Outside bets (red/black, odd/even) pay 1:1. The zero pocket wins only for bets that include zero.

4

Repeat or Adjust

Use the Rebet button to place the same bets again, or clear the table and start fresh. You can also use the Neighbours and Special Bets options for racetrack betting.

Bonus Features and Game Mechanics

Single Zero Wheel

European Roulette uses a single zero wheel with 37 pockets (0-36). The single zero gives the house a 2.70% edge, compared to 5.26% for American Roulette with its double zero. Always choose European over American Roulette.

Inside Bets

Inside bets are placed on specific numbers or small groups. Straight Up (single number, 35:1), Split (two adjacent numbers, 17:1), Street (three numbers, 11:1), Corner (four numbers, 8:1), Six Line (six numbers, 5:1).

Outside Bets

Outside bets cover larger groups of numbers. Red/Black (1:1), Odd/Even (1:1), Low/High (1:1), Dozen (12 numbers, 2:1), Column (12 numbers, 2:1). Outside bets win more frequently but pay less.

Racetrack Betting

The racetrack view allows you to place Neighbours bets (a number and its neighbours on the wheel), Voisins du Zero, Tiers du Cylindre and Orphelins bets. These are popular with experienced roulette players.

Favourite Bets

Save your favourite bet combinations for quick placement. This feature is useful for players who regularly use the same betting patterns or racetrack bets.

Statistics Panel

The statistics panel shows hot and cold numbers, the distribution of recent results and other useful data. While past results do not influence future spins, many players find the statistics panel useful for tracking patterns.
