How to Play Classic Blackjack
Classic Blackjack follows standard blackjack rules. The objective is to beat the dealer by getting a hand value closer to 21 without going over. Here is how the game works:
Place Your Bet
Choose your bet between R1 and R200 and click Deal. You and the dealer each receive two cards. Your cards are face up. The dealer has one card face up and one face down.
Evaluate Your Hand
Number cards are worth their face value. Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are worth 10. Aces are worth 1 or 11. A blackjack (Ace plus a 10-value card) pays 3:2 and beats any dealer hand except another blackjack.
Choose Your Action
Hit to take another card. Stand to keep your current hand. Double Down to double your bet and take exactly one more card. Split to divide a pair into two separate hands. Surrender to forfeit half your bet.
Dealer Reveals
After you stand, the dealer reveals their face-down card. The dealer must hit until reaching 17 or higher and stands on soft 17. If the dealer busts (exceeds 21), you win. The higher hand wins.
Bonus Features and Game Mechanics
Single Deck
Classic Blackjack uses a single deck of 52 cards, which is reshuffled after each hand. A single deck gives the player a slight mathematical advantage over multi-deck games, contributing to the high RTP.
Double Down
You can double your bet after receiving your first two cards and receive exactly one more card. Doubling down on 9, 10 or 11 is a key basic strategy move that increases your expected return.
Split Pairs
When you receive two cards of the same value, you can split them into two separate hands, each with its own bet. You can split up to three times, creating up to four hands. Aces can only be split once.
Insurance
When the dealer's face-up card is an Ace, you can take insurance for half your original bet. Insurance pays 2:1 if the dealer has blackjack. Basic strategy advises against taking insurance in most situations.
Surrender
If your initial hand is unfavourable, you can surrender and forfeit half your bet. Surrendering on hard 16 against a dealer 9, 10 or Ace is recommended by basic strategy.
Basic Strategy Guide
Classic Blackjack is the ideal game for learning and practising basic strategy. With optimal play, the RTP reaches 99.50%, making it one of the best-value games in any online casino.
